MICHELIN Motorsport Partners

Audi & Michelin - Years of Innovations & Success

Audi and Michelin’s relationship has encompassed four-wheel-drive success in the FIA World Rally Championship, the breakthrough victory for a diesel engine car in the Le Mans 24 Hours and hybrid technology at the heart of motorsport.

For the last three decades, Audi and Michelin have shared common values and objectives – winning races and rallies through innovation, and subsequently transferring that technology into their regular road-going products.

At the start of the 1980s, Audi called upon Michelin to equip its formidable all-wheel-drive Quattros in the FIA World Rally Championship, and this technological collaboration would go on to yield three straight titles (one Manufacturers’ and two Drivers’ crowns).

In 2006, Audi again turned to Michelin as it sought a tyre partner to help it conquer the legendary Le Mans 24 Hours and global endurance racing with diesel technology. This represented a true challenge for both brands and resulted in five victories in the round-the-clock La Sarthe classic.

In 2012, Audi opened another new chapter in motorsport as it introduced thermal and electric hybrid technology into racing. Once more, Michelin brought its own innovations to the table as the R18 e-tron quattro hybrid prototype triumphed across the board and all around the world, from the United States to Le Mans and China.

Today, countless race-winning technologies developed by Audi and Michelin can be found in their everyday manufacturing processes.
