Michelin & Aston Martin

A Loyal Partner in the Brand's Revival

Michelin has been a loyal partner to Aston Martin since the brand’s sporting revival in 2005 and, over the past ten years, has played a key role in all of the carmaker’s international motorsport successes – both in GT racing and prototypes.

In March, 2005 – 46 years after an Aston Martin DBR1 triumphed outright in the Le Mans 24 Hours – the famous British marque celebrated its official return to the racetrack with victory alongside Michelin in the GT1 category at the 12 Hours of Sebring.

Aston Martin Racing and Michelin subsequently won the GT1 class at Le Mans in both 2007 and 2008 with the Aston Martin DBR9S, before stepping up to LMP1 prototype level the next season.

In the 2009 edition of the Le Mans 24 Hours, the Michelin-shod Aston Martin DB1.2 finished fourth overall and best-placed of the ‘petrol’ LMP1 contenders. Later that same year, Aston Martin’s prototype clinched the Le Mans Series championship crown.

In 2012, it was once more with Michelin that Aston Martin returned to the GT class with its new Vantage – in both V8 and V12 versions – in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and in the world’s greatest endurance races, including the 24 Hours of Spa and Nürburgring 24 Hours.

In 2013, after tallying four triumphs at LMGTE Pro level, Aston Martin and Michelin finished runners-up in the FIA World Endurance Cup for GT Manufacturers. The following year, Aston Martin and Michelin won the FIA Endurance Trophy for LMGTE Am Teams, having claimed seven victories from eight races.

The Aston Martin/Michelin partnership in figures:

  • 2 titles (one in LMP1, one in GT1) and 2 LMP1 class victories in the Le Mans Series
  • 4th overall in the 2009 Le Mans 24 Hours
  • 1 LMP1 class victory in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS)
  • 2 GT class victories in the Le Mans 24 Hours
  • 21 LMGTE Pro and Am class victories in the FIA WEC
  • 12 LMGTE Pro and Am class pole positions in the FIA WEC
